I spent an hour last night working on my Italian. At the end of each unit, there is a "milestone test". Basically you have a conversation with the computer and have to come up with the question that fits the answer (similar to Jeopardy). I got 5 out of 8 right and they had to prompt me for all of them. I got a little nervous.
I have never even vacationed somewhere that really required me to speak a foreign language. Ricardo said that most of the touristy areas of Europe speak English. However, we are moving there so that we can live in and explore the non-touristy areas. I also want to be fully immersed in the Italian lifestyle and culture and that means speaking Italian. I'm wondering what it will be like to have limited communication with someone. Are we going to feel isolated or frustrated? Are we going to pick up the language quickly by being immersed in it? I'm hoping that we become somewhat conversational before we go so this won't be a problem. Must....keep....learning.....
Arrivederci!
