Friday night I took Ricardo to a restaurant called Lugo Caffe. It is a wonderful Italian restaurant right next to Madison Square Garden. We have gone a few times just for their homemade mozzarella. (Side note: If real Italian food is even half as good as this mozzarella I'm coming back from Italy a fat and happy woman). Our waiter didn't know much about the wines so he asked the manager to stop by to help us out. We started talking to the manager and told him we have been here a few times. He recommends an amazing Syrah/Nero D'Avola blend from Sicilia. I wrote down the information so we could visit the vineyard while in Sicilia. All of a sudden the chef is sending us complimentary onion soup with delicious ravioli in it, fried mortadella, and homemade meatballs throughout the course of our night. We kept asking our waiter what we did to deserve this treatment and he just said the chef took a liking to us. We are not going to complain about free food!
The meal was amazing and really got me excited to eat the amazing Italian food that I have heard so much about. The manager came back later and we picked his brain a little bit about Italy. He suggested we live in southern Italy or Tuscany.
We went back on Tuesday when we were back at Madison Square Garden for the Westminster Dog Show and they recognized us right away. It is fun to be on a first name basis with a restaurant manager.
Arrivederci!
