Leaving Las Vegas With a Plug List

Alright, y'all. We're back from our impromptu trip to Vegas. And man was it a whirlwind. We got to see Garth Brooks, walk up and down the Strip for a while, people watch, dine at two fantastic restaurants, and see the risque Zumanity Cirque du Soleil show. I won't recap the entire trip, because you're not that interested, but here's what may end up being the lasting impression of the trip: The Plug List. I can't take full credit for the idea, since it's a joint Lucia/Ricardo venture, but I will take naming credit.

Lucia posted her Bucket List a while back, and we talk about it regularly. The Plug List is a companion to the Bucket List. Just as the Bucket List implies that these are the things you want to do before you "kick the bucket," the Plug List is a collection of unintended experiences that occur before someone "pulls the plug" on you. Dark? Perhaps. But it fits, at least in our minds. By nature, you can't write down your Plug List, since the events are not planned. The first entry on my Plug List occurred in Vegas while trying to get our Garth Brooks tickets.

We had been talking with someone on craigslist who had agreed to sell us her tickets since she no longer wanted to go. Then after we had booked our flights, she emailed us and said she got an email from the Wynn describing the ticket pickup. When you picked up the tickets, you had to have each person who was going with you pick them up, with ID's matching a name that you had to give them beforehand, and only then would they give you the tickets, stamp your hand, and physically put a wristband on you, and you'd need all 3 to get in. Well, needless to say, that put a hindrance on reselling tickets. So, that was out. We knew this beforehand, so on the day of the show we headed up to the Wynn to stand in the stand-by line for any tickets that were released that day (the Wynn hangs on to a bunch for high-rollers, and then releases them at noon that day). Get up to the stand-by line, and find that there are two lines, one for Wynn hotel guests (first priority) and one for non-hotel guests (doesn't open til 6 PM). Uh oh, not good. We theorize that there is no way that there will be tickets left at 6, so we decide to head over to registration and book a room for the night. That's my first entry on the Plug List - Rent two hotel rooms on the same night. It's certainly not the craziest thing I'll ever do, but it led to the creation of the Plug List, and thus, it was a momentus occasion. It also happened to work...we got in the Wynn standby line and almost immediately got tickets. So it was a happy ending after all.

We'll keep monitoring the status of our Plug Lists as the blog continues.
